AAEP XP Equine Ophthalmology -- Overview
Open to download resource.
Open to download resource. With practice and effort, equine practitioners can develop proficiency in field ophthalmology. Getting known as someone who has an interest in eyes is a great way to build a client base: eye problems are a serious concern to owners as any problem that threatens the animal’s potential for sight, also threatens the usefulness of that animal. Some problems will always have to be referred to specialists, but the average practitioner can examine, diagnose, and treat many of the eye problems that are seen in the field. The aim of this course is to review the major ophthalmic diseases of the horse, their etiologies, pathogeneses and treatments and to improve your comfort level with examining, diagnosing and treating ophthalmic disease in the horse. Our hope for you is that you will come away with a better sense of how to treat things that are amenable to therapy in the field and when to seek the advice or services of an ophthalmologist for diseases that are not.
